While serving as Young Lawyers Director for the Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Megan obtained grant awards to spearhead projects at Harbor House and SafeHouse aimed at transforming interior and exterior living spaces at the shelters and offering workshops on important issues ranging from budgeting and employment skills training to safety techniques and initiating family law related legal proceedings.

Megan is the proud mom of Charlie, a Labrador Retriever/Golden mix that she and her husband adopted from Pet Rescue by Judy. Charlie was rescued from a kill shelter in North Florida by Judy’s awesome volunteer team. Before providing Charlie his forever home, Megan volunteered as an adoption screener and foster mom for other abandoned dogs looking for their forever home.

Taking both causes to heart, raising awareness for domestic violence and rescuing pets in need, Megan is an annual supporter of the Paws for Peace Walk benefiting the Paws for Peace Kennel at Harbor House of Central Florida. The Paws for Peace Kennel opened in 2012 and is located on-site at Harbor House’s emergency shelter. The link between domestic violence and pet abuse is an often overlooked issue. Nearly half of domestic violence survivors stay in an abusive situation out of fear for their pets’ safety and 88% of pets living in a home with domestic abuse are either abused or killed. The Paws for Peace Kennel provides a temporary safe place for pets while other family members receive services from Harbor House. Megan’s team, Charlie’s Crew, has raised more than $9,500 for the kennel and was recognized for most money raised in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Outside of her professional commitments, Megan enjoys cooking, crafting, and spending time in the Florida sun with her family.
